FIRST PAGE RECAP
When 19 year old Ivy University political science undergrad Alexander Kostas encountered a hairy, toga-wearing hobo claiming to be the father he never knew, it didn’t end well. Little did he realize the man was telling the truth, and that his father was no mortal man, but Zeus the Sky-Father of Olympus. Gifted with artifacts and powers by all the male Greek gods of Olympus as an answer to the goddesses' female champion, Wonder Woman, Alex Kostas tries to live a normal life with his girlfriend, nursing student Rebecca Glass. But every day he confronts the truth that life can never be normal for the demigod champion who will soon call himself Aegis, Son of Olympus!
CALVIN CITY
The first issue of Aegis's first limited series (back when he is still known as the Olympian) begins with him in his mortal identity as Alex Kostas. He and his girlfriend Rebecca Glass are looking at an upscale townhouse for him to buy with his recent lottery “win”. As the two of them are rolling their eyes at the overbearing ramblings of the middle age hausfrau-cum-real estate agent, Alex gets a breaking news text from a local news site that a superhuman is causing wanton destruction in Ivy Town’s shopping district.
Making an excuse that he forgot a meeting with his CPA, he takes off in a hurry much to Rebecca’s consternation. The Olympian arrives on the scene to see that a superhuman completely engulfed in flame and adorned with chains was calmly waiting for him, hovering above a scene of complete chaos and devastation. (In the background of the fight is a billboard saying “Have you seen me?” showing the picture of a cute African-American girl of about 8 w/ pigtails and all, this is important next issue).
The guy shooting all the flames introduces himself as “Ixion, the Burning King,” and the fight commences. But it doesn’t last long, for as powerful as Ixion is, the Olympian can take it. After beating the snot out of him, Alex grabs Ixion by some of the chains covering his body (he also has a huge spinning wheel on his back that burns like the sun) and begins to interrogate him, but the flaming madman bellows with laughter, and disappears into a cloud of smoke
EPILOGUE 1 – Ft. Hansen Army Base (30 minutes outside Calvin City)
A young lieutenant is working late that evening on his computer. As the camera peers over his shoulder, the reader can make out the words “TOP SECRET – RED SKY” at the top of his monitor. The camera points back at the ;ieutenant, whose nameplate reads “BANKS” wearing a shocked look on his face. The next image has him picking up the phone saying into it, “get me the Pentagon.”
EPILOGUE 2 – Calvin City, at CLOCKWERK (an elite nightclub in the financial district)
A sullen man in a black overcoat bypasses the velvet rope much to the chagrin of all the poseurs waiting in line. In his inner monologue, the unidentified man's narration indicates he is not a good person, as he mentions that he is heading into this club to speak to someone but is clearly not looking forward to it. Crossing through the den of sin, and into a door marked “Office” he enters. Inside is a plush office with only two people. Sitting behind an ornate desk is a black-haired, unnaturally handsome man. Behind him, standing at the shadows at the window, is a vaguely feminine figure. The man behind the desk stands up, smiling unpleasantly.
In his interior monologue, the man in the black overcoat speaks of seeing "beyond the illusion of flesh." As he does, we see through his eyes, as the male figure is revealed as an inhuman figure, resplendent in armor reminiscent of his father Ares: Phobos, the God of Fear. Phobos, in turn, asks the man to assume his true form, so he bursts into flames, revealing him to be Ixion. After Ixion informs his master (who happens to be his half-brother) of his failure to kill the son of Zeus, Phobos says it doesn’t matter, as the fear the populace is feeding him with more than makes up for it. He then asks the woman if she can handle the job of felling a demigod, something to which she laughs as she steps out from the shadows to reveal herself to be Euryale, one of the 3 true Gorgon sisters (snake-hair and all)!
