CALVIN CITY: The Suicide Squad's current field team (Bronze Tiger, Rick Flag, Nightshade, Virtuoso, and the newly code-named Descent) is pinned-down in an abandoned warehouse in the decaying Industrial District. Under fire on all sides by the forces of Kobra, they'd teleport out of there if they could, but the explosion that landed them there ko'd Nightshade. Good thing their good luck charm Descent is with them, otherwise they wouldn't have a snowball's chance in Hell.
IVY TOWN: A long night, but an AMAZING night for Alex Kostas. Not only did fall semester end without a hitch... ok, encounters with superheroes and monsters straight out of Greek myth notwithstanding; but winning $300 million on a powerball ticket? He and Rebecca were going to start looking for a much better place in the city this morning. That is until he turned on his TV…
TV REPORT (from news helicopter): "... ok Ted, here's what we know so far. I-15 is closed from the Greensborough Bridge through the Coover Turnpike. Four vehicles identified by law-enforcement sources as being driven by KOBRA terrorists are chasing an SUV for reasons unknown. This all started at Ivy University when...waitaminnit... what's that? It looks like a man from one if the KOBRA vehicles is standing up through the sun roof of the car with what looks to be a... WHOA!! Did you see that Ted? That laser beam sent the chased SUV flying off the bridge into the Industrial District. We just got word that City Emergency Management asks people to stay in their homes and businesses, first responders are en route as we speak."
IVY TOWN: Alex doesn't wait for the report to end, he changes into his guise as the Olympian and flies out his window to the scene.
CALVIN CITY: Descent surveys the scene, and it doesn't look good. Nightshade's out, so no magical evac. Virtuoso's out cold too, as well as "the package": Ivy U mathematician Benjamin Trent. Flag and Descent return fire with SMGs while Bronze Tiger's on the horn with Waller trying to get evac or reinforcements. They need something to turn the tide right now... ...which is when the Olympian hits one of the KOBRA vehicles like a cruise missile. Seeing just the right opportunity, Flag orders Descent and Bronze Tiger to put their masks on and to assist Calvin City's newest superhero.
Despite KOBRA's high-powered energy weapons, they're no match for the combined might of a Son of Zeus, a master martial artist, and a rookie possessed of preternatural luck. The fight is a short one. Afterwards, Flag comes out to thank the Olympian for the assist. Alex asks the man what was going on, but the veteran operator politely dodges the question. Before he can press him further, Alex feels a slight pinch, and sees Bronze Tiger standing over him for half-a-second as he passes-out.
When he comes-to, he's surrounded by cops and firefighters. The KOBRA shooters have been taken into custody, and the team he fought with briefly gone without a trace. After answering a few questions from a police officer, he flies away hoping to salvage the rest of the morning with Rebecca and wondering what all of that fiasco was really about...
BELLE REVE: Waller was shocked to hear Bronze Tiger's nerve pinch actually worked on the Olympian. Not as shocked as the Squad was to learn that Waller had access to an actual BOOM TUBE to teleport them out before the authorities arrived. All that aside, it was time for the director of Task Force X to debrief Dr. Trent. She was curious why KOBRA wanted anything to do with an untenured applied mathematics professor. He told Waller it was because he had just made a breakthrough working with the notes of the late scientist Professor Ezra Gill. She asked him why notes from a scientist dead for more than 50 years would interest a terrorist cult like KOBRA. Trent explained that Gill was the man who discovered the formula that gave WWII mystery man Johnny Quick his superhuman speed powers, and that his notes contained other formulae as well...
... Formulae that could control the very nature of spacetime itself.
